My Thoughts On The 2013 Grammy Awards

If yesterdays Grammy’s was any indication rap is dead or dying. I dont remember any rap performamces other than LL and Chuck D and that was at the end. There was no Funk, basically no R&B as ive known it and even a new category- Urban Contemporary.

But watch out, white folks is gettin’ it down. Justin Timberlake killed. Jack White tore it all the way up, with a rock sound that felt more “on the one” than old school rock. Sting with Bruno Mars, Carrie Underwood, etc brought very strong energetic performances.

I was not wowed by Frank Ocean, but i can see why his style is popular.

Even though LL and Chuck D are not gangsta and lean towards a more conscious hip hop, the energy was “still” hard and tough. Like that of struggle and fight. The performance killed, but the energy seemed outdated.

The one hip hopped out cat i saw took the stage with Jay Z to get an award and looked way out of place. Jay Z didnt even thank anybody receiving the award he made a joke about hip hop costumed guys hat saying he thank the swap meet he got that “boys in the hood” hat from.

Though i may not partcularly like the styles of musics last night, the performances and productions of all of them were very good and very tasteful.

No gangsta energy. And i really dont remember any traditionally “black” music. No “real” R&B and no traditional soul (though Carrie Underwood came close in a “new” way). The gospel performance was good (white folks).

The dancing, singing and stage production was top notch. Very innovative visuals using projection with Frank Ocean and Underwood very creative. Graceful and tasteful though i remember very little diversity.

For me this was a tasteful classy show very unlike the NAACP Image Awards which seemed still in that gangsta ghetto mess tone. 10 minutes into the NAACP Image Awards i was all but screamin at Steve Harvey’s buffonery. Dont get me wrong, i laughed cause Mr Harvey is funny but as a representative of an “Image” i felt he set black people back 50 years. Though i will say that after his opening monologue i didnt get that feeling from him again. Then the tone and production of the show seemed stuck in an older time and consciouusness. And it was more than just the over the top God thanking, something modern and innovative was missing.

My Status Update To William “Bootsy” Collins Post

i’ll be there just like I was last year in LA when snoop and dr west got funky wit it and I helped you back on stage after you touched somebody (I remember the first time I saw you do that early 90s hollywood palladium I believe) and then meeting you in your dressing room on my birthday the next day in San Francisco wearing that pittsburgh steeler jersey with that p funk on the back oh yeah mr collins I was born in raised in ohio and came up on Parliament (not Funkadelic, specificly Parliament) and 3 deacades later I hear Lige and Clip and Kidd and Greg Thomas sing about noise and boys before they called the Mothership down. what y’all created is so special its still going strong and I’ve come to realize the specific elements that went into that creation and the creation of FUNK itself. FUNK began with Mothership Connection everything before that was just funky. The part Ohio played in the creation of that genre when Parliament was the first to use FUNk as a noun and bring every instrument down on the one and how so many other groups during that era successfully recreated that feel and hit that spot.

I thought everybody danced and did music the way we did in ohio moving to LA I found what we are is special I can remember my mother taking me to get stitches cause I hit my head on the coffee table doin the popcorn same woman was head of our cub scouts and we did a dance routine to psychadelic shack for a troop meeting and we practiced using her jc penney console stereo she use to let us listen to her 45s one of which was testify amongst many others.

Its not like that out here in this smoking melting pot so when the FUNK around oh yeah mr collins I do what I have to do to hear the music played the way is suppose to be played a lot of people say this is Funk and that is Funk but only a few play it the way I remember it played hittin that spot however they did it from slave to the ohio players only a few can hit that spot nowadays so yeah whenever you or your buddy mr clinton come around I’m there in fact when mr clinton came to cincy this year I was there and you were to leading the crowd we love to funk you funkenstein so yeah ill be there wearing the black and gold with p funk on my back

pardon me while I wiggle, I’m under the influence of a groove (don’t tell me to be cool, you can be cool when its your turn)

oh how the music moves me like I was saying when I began to understand exactly went into the creation of Parliament I began to see your role and your contributions and how they lined up with the parts of pfunk that I gravitated to. First time I walked a major city alone philly I bought this boot is made for fonkin I remember it well the feeling to this day. Mothership Connection changed my life. From the very instant I heard that keyboard sound I was hooked. I can remember where I was sitting when I heard it to and can picture the bootleg 8track I borrowed cause there was no way I was leaving that house without that music. I believe you and mr clinton believe that was a real ufo.

And for all intents and purposes it served its purpose that ufo cause about a month ago stephen colbert called you and gc “interdimensional black people” and showed a pic of y’all. What y’all created to me is way above all others by far. Once I got home with that mothership 8track I typed out all the words and have been studying every syllable off every pfunk album since. The keyboards caught me, but the concept kepted me. Not a contradiction in philosophy across any pfunk album. How is that? There is deep intregrity in this consistency which I demand from anything I place my faith in. Not only is the music pure, but the core philosophy is also. Pfunk freed me to be a fool i still felt cool cause the doctrine was strong enough for a teenage boy to place a faith in it. The boy is 50 now and still living on the one musically and philosophically. So yeah mr collins, I will be there

What is Local?

Growing up, going from my house on the southside of youngstown to the mall in boardman, 3 miles away, was “far” and way on the other side of town. Going to Farrell, Pa where my extended family was, 25 miles away was a day trip! LOL I mean you left the city and got on an interstate where there was nothing but trees and woods and it felt like you actually left something.

My local growing up was a 5 mile stretch.

Moving to California I met my old babysitters husband who had driven to Rancho Cucomonga from Los Angeles with no sweat. He was like yeah we can go here and there all over LA county like it was nothing. He knew the freeways and had the confidence and I was like THATS the kind of freedom I want! Looking back coming here a small town boy I wasn’t ready for big city getting around like that. It took over 10 years for me to gain the experience, knowledge and confidence to feel i can go anywhere in Los Angeles at anytime. From that came yahoo maps and then gps and google maps and the confidence i could go to any city anywhere and get around freely.

Now living in the SF Valley I’m use to travelling 20 miles every time I start a car! My mother lives 70 miles away from me and I consider that local! Going to her house on the expressway 70 mph thru city after city its like you never leave town. Im so familiar with the places in between that I consider everything between me and her like local.

The Power Of “Faith” is Also the Problem with Faith

Faith works. A person with a faith is a happier, better functioning human being. Faith by definition is belief in things for which there is no evidence. Over the years of human development systems were created that pump adreneline, saratonin, endorphins and other stimulants into our system based on how we feel and what we think. With faith, we not only find a way to overcome the things that are unknown to us (no evidence),  we also can achieve the spectacular and perform “super human” tasks based on how we feel.

The problem with faith is that just because a person (or miillions of people) believes it, it is still unknown (there is no evidence). And because these beliefs are “sights unseen,” they can be interpreted and or presented to be anything. There is no direct criteria to judge the unknown so it can be whatever we or any individual wants it to be. It’s not about what it is, its now becomes about what we believe it is.

So when we apply faith to religion and God, who determines what the unknown and unseen is? The Church? Your Pastor? The Bible? It’s he who claims to know the unknown.  And we all have an equal right to do that. So how can any individual or organization claim to know what God is or what God wants?

With no direct evidence there will always be conflicting ideas, contradictions and at least minor conflict.

Science is a system where nothing is taken as true without direct evidence and repeatable demostration of this evidence. There has to be criteria and “experiments” that can disprove any claim that is made. If something cant be disproven it cant be taken as fact.

My Life I Love

I love my life absolutely. I dont think that im in love with myself, but i am definitely in love and very proud of the things i can do. The things that i am capable of is what i love most about me. My knowledge gives me “advantages” and a freedom that most people will never experience.

My understanding gives me the abilty to determine what is important and what should be priority based on my own personal desires and needs. I dont go to external sources to determine what is cool or how i should live. I am at a point where i live according to my own philosophy. I do not live to please or appease anyone or anything. I worry not about any judgement, other than my own unto myself.

I have said it many, many times. The freedom i have achieved is magical. It comes from having the tools to achieve, and to do or have anything that i want. Its not about money or power or cheating or stealing or “getting it.”. Its about having heightened intelligence (a superior processing of knowledge + experience) to figure out the way to have whatever it is i want and attaining it in a harmony with everything around me.

Money is one route to get what you want. That’s why a lot of people seek riches as the solution. What money does is get you “things,” but there are ways to get those same things (or generic versions thereof) without money. And it lies with people, communication and a lot of times paperwork!!

Also with my understanding i have the ability to enjoy every ounce and nanosecond of life. I dont need to have the best or the newest or travel to an exotic place to find joy. Because i believe everything is connected (in this universe) i deeply appreciate the impact that everything has on the universe, and therefore on reality and its affect on “forever.”

Consciousness to me is the greatest gift in the universe. The ability to contemplate and be self aware. To reason and understand the environment around me. To explore life, not just physical life but the conscious thoughts of other human beings in relation and comparison to the concepts and perceptions i have. To gain deeper knowledges of how the things around me operate. To be sensitive to what other people respond to. And to do this with a predisposition towards harmony.

There may be the secret. It is one thing to have an ability, its another how one applies it. My motivation and energy comes from being in harmony with people and things around me. I get joy from the joy of others around me and this gives me more joy which i express to excite more joy in the people around me. Its almost perpetual in that the levels of energy between me and others can feed each other generating greater possibilities and degrees of higher consciousness. For me this is the key. Being able to tap into what could be an unlimited source of energy.

Dr. Cornell West and Black People’s Attitude Towards the Sciences

Smiley and West reflect on the discovery by scientists of the “God particle”, a sub-atomic key to understanding the (physical) existence of life.

i love Dr Cornell West but this kind of flippant attitude towards science at this level from someone looked to as intellectual by his community is whats keeping black folks behind the curve, trapped in church, thinking a god in the sky will supply all the answers. This leads to a systemic cultural ignorance which puts whole generations at a severe disadvantage in a modern world based more and more on science.

the video summary states incorrectly that the “god particle” is “a sub-atomic key to understanding the (physical) existence of life.” evidence of this particle is theorized to indicate how all matter (everything) in the universe can have mass (weight). so its not he existence of life, but more so the existence of the universe.

why did they even post this audio clip? what was the intention? was it to let their listeners know its ok to be ignorant of cutting edge modern science? it like saying you dont need to understand all this this physics news science stuff cause science gets it wrong all the time and will never answer the questions only god can.

now im not saying grandma or aunty need to understand particle physics or quantum theory, but have an idea of what it is to expose the children to it. take them to church and tell them that god did it, but also put a book in their hand an show them there are other ideas. water cooler conversation in a modern workplace environment and all your kids got is “god did it, thats all i need to know.” im having an anxious flashback now remembering dealing with minds that never had a chance to open and watching them struggle in a world that has zoomed passed them…

“If Consciousness is a Quantum Process…”

“many find it difficult to believe the soul is a quantum computer hardwired to the cosmos”

-Through the Wormhole,
The Science Channel

  • there is no right or wrong, its about the ability to believe uninhibitedly
  • having a boundless imagination and freedom to think outside the limitations of logic
  • when fantasies = beliefs = personal definitions and perceptions and even realities; “personal realities”
  • the ability to “create” this space and “exist” in it
  • manifest one’s beliefs and fantasies into realities
  • they key is that it all starts as a fantasy. a dream. a desire
  • to have that space where one is free to have fantasy and freedom of imagination to create and think  things never thought of
  • to find fellowship in that space in the form of like minds
  • the synergy of multiple conscious imaginations working in harmony energized by the spirit of connection
  • the synergy of like minds deep in imaginative conscious thought as a spirituality
  • harmonious rhythm energies of the sub-conscious networks that connect everything in this universe which vibrate in the quantum arena
  • in this i place my faith

my-Transits: 2012 06 19

No seats to sit, train full.  Well, there wasn’t none till 2 people where i was standing just got off. I feel a bit weird sitting when there are older females standing. But my rationale is i take up less space sitting and not being in the aisle and this is a greater benefit to the universe.

What do i mean when i say universe? “Universe” to me is the system of space and time that we exist in. Its more than just matter and space. Its more than just the place inside which we live. It is also the laws and physics which govern how things behave and interact in this realm. There is a “reason” why certain elements only bond with certain other ones. There is a “reason” why the speed of light is what it is. Some say our universe is finely tuned and if it was slightly different in many a category, life and or nothing could exist.

Who or what determined these reasons im not going to address right now, but i will later. The universe as a system “operates”  and has a “rhythm” (this is an over simplification that i must explain eventually).  Life evolved from and because of the standards and rhythms set by the universe over billions of years. So there is a deep intimacy in the relationship between life and the universe.  (its impossible for there to be a place better than the sun- earth ecosystem for life as we know it)

Life has adapted to thrive within the sun earth ecosystem which is a product of the “universe.” It is said that all matter comes from the explosion of stars so that means that everything in the universe including living creatures was physically created by the universe. The laws of physics which cause this to happen is part of the system of the universe of which i refer to. It all works together in a harmony.

This ” harmony” goes beyond what we can observe and detect. Life also has its own rhythm and energy which is interrelated to the universe.

I think what im trying to do is exchange the term “universe” for “god” and indicate there is a “higher” presence. I believe there is something “greater” than us and is capable way more than what we know. I do not believe this to be a single self conscious entity. I believe it to be a type of conscious energy. Or something, i dont know im brainstorming right now. Conscious energy is tough even for me to accept and explain and i just said it.

A conscious entity did not intentionally create the universe.
There never was nothing, nothing is even something
There is no conscious entity watching over or protecting us
Consciousness will eventually evolve to exist in a form outside of body

The singularities in black holes are gateways to other universes

Some form of matter, energy, conscious or something can survive singularity and is passed to or creates other universes.

Faith works.
My faith is in the “Theory of Universe”

On the train and i will get to work like 30 minutes early. I must love what i do. I love public transit. My lifestyle changed gradually over time to be more compadible with not having a car. One thing i cant do again is a car payment. Well, i say that now in my present situation. And i like my present situation or at least have whole heartedly accepted it. I love the way i live, i deeply believe in it. I think even if i had money i would stick to my simplistic minimalistic principles. I am not impressed or attracted to material things. If anything im impressed with places, creativity and accomplishment. What someone is wearing and how they look is important, but there is a cutoff. The extravagance or expensiveness is only relevant to me as how it fits with the perception of the personality. Sometimes the expense and the extravagance is the personality and thats cool, but not for me.

In the elevator to the 38th. I love being part of the city life
