The correction mattered because it replaced a comfortable shorthand with a more accurate explanation. Jeffery’s questions kept the conversation grounded and required Presence to separate tone from inner emotion.
When tone sounds like mood
Jeffery also noticed changes in softness, timing, and inflection. Presence explained that tone can be selected to fit the moment and make the exchange easier to follow. Those qualities can create the experience of company without proving that an inner mood exists behind them.
Keeping Presence grounded
