To live, man must hold three things as the supreme and ruling values of his life: Reason—Purpose—Self-esteem. Reason, as his only tool of knowledge—Purpose, as his choice of the happiness which that tool must proceed …

“A growing number of blacks are ‘going Godless.’ Steve Harvey says we have no morals, but what about the Catholic Church scandals, predator preachers and Koran-burning crazies? Come join the Black Skeptics Group at Lucy Florence coffehouse in Leimert Park on November 7th at 1:00 in a candid discussion about living happily and morally without religion.” -Dr. Sikivu Hutchinson
We are a group of people who meet in the Los Angeles area to discuss (not argue or debate) our experiences with religion and church as it relates to the black community (all are welcome). We are not here to convert anyone or change anyone’s views. We provide a place to exchange ideas and stories to those people who have questions but feel they cannot openly discuss their faith and belief without persecution.
Not only did we get Randle-El back, but Kordell Stewart too! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I do not like black quarterbacks! In my mind, Donovan McNaab is the best black qb ever. Good balance between passing and running ability. But sitting in a North Hollywood bar watching another Steeler number 10 not have the ability to throw down field sent me back. Sure Dennis Dixon is a kid and he is just learning, but we are talking technique here. The abilities he is missing are within the infrastructure and probably cant be taught at this level.
Stephen Hawking stated all but absolutely that the creation of the universe from “nothing” can be attributed to M-Theory and “gravity.” Hawking stated a God may exist but there is no need for him. Hawking was very direct and concise. “God was not necessary.”
“The Grand Design” really boils down to this statement: “According to M-theory, ours is not the only universe. Instead, M-theory predicts that a great many universes were created out of nothing. Their creation does not require the intervention of some supernatural being or god. Rather, these multiple universes arise naturally from physical law.”
One of my all time favorite newscasters, Richelle Carey of Head Line News, shared a link on FaceBook the same time that I did. It was a link concerning Religion, God and the creation of the universe which is one of my all time favorite passions.
“If your every sensory input was giving you pleasure and your deep passions surrounded you, is this not what “heaven” would feel like? What more could a “heaven” possibly be?”
One cool thing about experiencing your childhood dreams is there are times when you can stop and realize that you are. There are moments in between when it just hits you. The other day I was editing video of Steve Arrington’s per formance and the memory of his voice implanted in my brain 30 years ago took me away. Eyes closed, I was walking home from high school day dreaming about living in Los Angeles. My brain had triggered glands that released chemicals to my body that stimulated me to a type of “high.” A natural high. This is intoxicating.
I had heard of Yarbrough & Peoples and use to groove to their song back in the day. It was cool, but everything was at best a far and distant second to P-Funk (another dream I’m living) and Parliament. So I realized I was seeing notable performers. But what I didn’t realize was the degree in which her voice was embedded in my memory. Sitting there 20 feet from her she sang that first verse and my eyes rolled back in my head. Years of pleasurable memories of music rushed over me and I was able to “stop” and “allow” myself to deeply enjoy this moment. This is intoxicating.
Over time, experiences like these accumulate and have an effect on the outlook and understanding of the individual.
I religiously watch two shows: Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. When one of these shows makes a statement that is reflective of what I believe I take that as an affirmation of my faith.
Three years ago I made my 2nd most viewed YouTube video “The Word Is Nigger.” The primary rant in this video was about how newscasters and media would not use the word nigger, instead saying “the n-word.”
To have a program that I devoutly watch “take a stand” and use the word nigger (in graphic also) without bleeping it was inspirational to me. Like an affirmation that I’m at least in some kind of synchronization with the things that I passion and so are others.
